Newsom has been meeting with business leaders to talk about the crisis in the state’s energy sector.

Newsom will be meeting with business leaders at the California Public Utilities Commission on Wednesday.

Under his administration, Newsom has already made some progress on the state’s energy crisis. He announced a ban on fracking, for example, and his state office made it easier for Californians seeking higher energy prices to apply for rate hikes.

But Newsom’s administration did not make much headway on its plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while reducing demand for fossil fuels, and he did not address many other elements of California’s energy crisis.

In the years since he became governor, Newsom has attacked Valero over its 500% increase in profit last year, despite the fact that the oil company has continued to face lawsuits from the state and federal government, as well as a backlash from its own shareholders and the public.

His criticism has come with a message: We’re all in this together, and we have to conserve energy, because our natural gas is not getting cheaper, and we’re all going to feel the full consequences of the energy crisis that he has allowed to get so out of control.

Watch Newsom make his remarks below, and check back here Sunday for an interview with Dana Bash.
