Arshad Sharif, prominent journalist who fled Pakistan, killed in shooting in Kenya.
The Associated Press reports:
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is in critical condition at a hospital in Kenya after being wounded in a gun attack at a luxury hotel in Nairobi, witnesses and a senior health official said on Saturday. The 65-year-old Sharif suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and torso, said the health official, who was not authorized to be named. He was listed in serious condition in a Nairobi hospital.
According to Kenya’s police chief, the former premier was treated for “serious injuries which include injuries to the chest, left arm and buttocks.” The man shot six times was rushed to a nearby hospital before he was able to be treated at the main hospital.
It is not clear how Sharif was wounded in the shooting. Witnesses, who said they were among a dozen guests at the Four Seasons Hotel when the shooting occurred, said they heard six shots from two people on motorcycles, who could not be identified or caught. One of them was dressed all in black, the other in a white suit.
No arrests have been made and the police chief said the investigation was ongoing. Sharif is the second former Pakistani leader to die in K-for-Kop.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is reportedly being treated for wounds sustained in a shooting at a Nairobi hotel when the motorcycle-riding gunmen fired six times at him with automatic weapons, which are rarely used in Kenya.
The shooting took place at a busy Nairobi shopping mall where Sharif was receiving a reception after returning from a visit to India. He is said to be recovering in a Nairobi hospital.
The attack comes a month after Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was gunned down in broad daylight while leaving a mosque in Islamabad, his bodyguard injured in the process and all his staff killed. He was the only serving prime minister to have survived assassination attempts in his lifetime.
The attack also comes nearly two weeks after another man was shot dead in his car outside a mall in Kolkata
