A member of the European United Left-Nordic Green Left (EUL-NGL), Ksenia Sobchak, arrived in Lithuania for the second leg of her campaign for the presidential election on Sunday. The comedian and television presenter is touring the eastern European country as part of her campaign for the presidential election.

“[In Lithuania a] country that has never really had a real female president, I think it is a great idea [to have a female president]. I am a candidate for Lithuania, but I want our next president to be a woman,” Sobchak said in an interview published by the Lithuanian daily paper Vidas. Sobchak hopes to attract votes from other women, so that they could participate more actively in politics.

“I’m a woman. I understand the significance of this issue. I understand why we are talking about it. I’m going to run, but my campaign is for a woman president,” Sobchak said.

The comedian and TV personality said that after the European Parliament elections, Lithuania could ask it to participate in the European elections. “Lithuania has to be included in the European Union, otherwise, we need to come up with a new structure,” Sobchak said.

Sobchak said she is willing to support any party in the election campaign, because she is not interested in the two main parties — For Lithuania, ‘For You’ and For Freedom. She hopes that the election campaign will be more informative for voters, as she says she would make the campaign more attractive by giving more information about her activities.

Sobchak told journalists that she understands that the election campaign is “a good opportunity to be in the public eye” — and that she would like to talk to people personally about different issues. “If I can meet people myself, at home, in their homes, I’m not going to campaign,” she said.
